RCB net five bowlers for UAE stint | Cricket News – Times of India

BENGALURU: With the Indian Premier League set to be held in a bio-secure environment in the UAE, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will travel with five net bowlers and two throwdown specialists.
RCB’s ‘nets’ contingent has been drawn from various parts of the country with some well-known names and young talent coupled with rookies. The players have been picked by their talent scouts headed by former Tamil Nadu player Malolan Rangarajan.
For 27-year-old Pravin Dubey it will be a homecoming, having been part of the Bengaluru franchise for two seasons from the 2016 edition. Having gone unsold in the previous auction, the wily leg-spinner is keen to impress the team management during nets in the UAE.
“I was disappointed when I wasn’t picked in the auction because I had a good domestic season. When I got a call from RCB to join the team as a net bowler I was happy because it gives me an opportunity to showcase my talent,” said Dubey, who is currently in quarantine, which is mandatory before the contingent departs on August 21.
The three-time finalists have decided to take with them a mix of spinners and pacers. Leading the pace pack in the nets will be Aditya Thakare. The 21-year-old Vidarbha bowler has been impressive in Ranji Trophy and has also turned out for India U-19.
Joining Thakare is another promising youngster, left-arm swing bowler Chetan Sakariya. The 22-year-old has made vital contributions for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy but had a modest outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 competition, picking six wickets in as many matches.
The inclusion of Sushant Mishra augurs well for the team. The 19-year-old left-arm pacer is yet to make his first-class debut but made his presence felt at the U-19 World Cup squad earlier this year.
Off-spinner Aman Kumar comes as a surprise package considering the Haryana player has nothing much to show in terms of domestic performance, having played one first class match and two List A ties.
List: Net bowlers: Pravin Dubey (Bengaluru); Chetan Sakariya (Jamnagar), Aman Kumar (Jhajjar, Haryana), Aditya Thakare (Akola, Maharashtra), Sushant Kumar Mishra (Ranchi). Throwdown specialists: Gabriel Ben Kurien (Ernakulam), Dinesh Puttepu (Visakhapatnam).
