From Dilip Kumar to Akshay Kumar, many celebrities in B-Town had to change their name before entering the showbiz. This is not a new phenomenon. Similarly, actor Manoj Bajpayee’s wife Shabana Raza, aka Neha Bajpayee who was also an actress and featured in several films like ‘Fiza’, ‘Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet’ and others, changed her name before entering the glam world, but she was not happy about it. Recently, we came across a 2008 article in which Shabana confessed that she was ‘forced’ to change her name to Neha before stepping into Bollywood. In her conversation with an entertainment portal, she revealed, ‘I was never Neha. I was always Shabana. I was forced into changing my name too. I was not okay with it at all. My parents proudly named me Shabana. There was no need to change it, but nobody listened to me. I have matured a lot since I entered the industry. I was very apprehensive about everything before but I understand better now’. As luck would have it, in 2008 she managed to feature in filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s critically acclaimed film ‘Alibaug’ with her original name. In the same interview, she spoke about the same and expressed her happiness to work in a film with her original name. She said, ‘That is why working with Sanjay and the whole team of Alibaug has been the best experience of my life. I told Sanjay that I want to go with my real name, and he was okay with it. I had lost my identity and now, I got it back’. Well, Shabana Raza, popularly known as Neha made her Bollywood debut in the year 1998 with the film ‘Kareeb’ starring Bobby Deol. The actress who has also worked in Tamil and Kannada films was last seen in the film ‘Acid Factory’ which was released in 2009 co-starring her hubby Manoj Bajpayee whom she married in the year 2006.
